Arkema, a leading developer of specialty materials, has launched a new range of Encor bio-based waterborne dispersions aimed at reducing the carbon footprint of performance textiles used in printing and finishing applications. The new acrylic binders, which contain up to 30% bio-based content, are designed to offer a 40% reduction in carbon footprint compared to traditional textile resins, addressing the growing demand for more sustainable solutions in the textile industry.
Helene Pernot, Arkema’s Global Sustainability Marketing Director for Coating Solutions, highlighted the significance of reducing the textile sector’s environmental impact, as it is responsible for 6-8% of global emissions. She emphasized that bio-based solutions are essential for transforming the industry and supporting customers in meeting their sustainability and carbon reduction goals.
Patricia Beurdeley, Global Market Manager for Nonwovens and Textiles, emphasized that Arkema’s approach considers the entire life cycle of its products. The company’s bio-based binders are formaldehyde- and APEO-free and comply with Oeko-Tex Eco Passport standards. Arkema is also focused on end-of-life management by improving biodegradability, extending product durability, and enhancing color solidity and washing resistance.
This launch represents a step forward in creating more sustainable textile products, helping manufacturers and brands meet the growing demands for eco-friendly solutions in the textile industry.
