Uzbekistan’s Global Textile Group is set to invest $40 million in a comprehensive cotton-textile complex in Kazakhstan’s Maktaaral district, located in the Turkestan region. This ambitious project aims to establish five key facilities, which include:

  1. Logistics Centre
  2. Cotton Processing Plant
  3. Textile Factory
  4. Dyeing and Spinning Workshops
  5. Garment Factories

Key Highlights:

  • Cotton Processing Plant: This facility will have an annual capacity of 13,800 tonnes of cotton, with products supplied to both the Kazakh market and exported to Europe.
  • Textile Factory: Expected to begin operations by 2027, it will be a cornerstone of the region’s textile sector.
  • Employment: The entire complex is projected to create over 2,000 permanent jobs, boosting local employment and economic development.
  • Total Project Cost: The estimated cost of the project is 21 billion tenge (approximately $39.61 million).

Background and Developments:

The project was recently discussed by Muzaffar Razakov, CEO of Global Textile Group, and the governor of the Turkestan region, Nuralkhan Kusherov. The company has also made significant progress in cotton cultivation by introducing the ‘Namangan-77’ cotton seeds last year, which have been planted across 3,200 hectares. Additionally, a cotton reception center with an annual capacity of 10,000 tonnes was completed, further strengthening the company’s infrastructure in the region.

This investment will enhance Kazakhstan’s position in the global textile market while fostering closer economic ties between Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, particularly in the cotton and textile industries.
