A new collective labor contract has raised the minimum wage in Jordan’s textile sector from JD220 to JD230, effective from January 1, 2025. The agreement, signed by the Jordan Garment and Textile Exporters Association, the General Union of Knitwear Owners, and the General Union of Workers in Textile Spinning, also includes an annual wage increase of JD5 for workers.

Under the agreement, workers in companies that do not provide transportation will receive a transportation allowance of JD25 per month. The signing ceremony was attended by key figures from the industry, including the Vice President of the Jordanian Garment Exporters Association Sanal Kumar, President of the General Union of Textile Owners Mahmoud Hajjawi, his deputy Ihab Qadri, and President of the General Union of Workers in Textile Spinning Fathallah Omrani. The event was held under the patronage of Minister of Labour Khaled Bakkar.

Minister Bakkar emphasized the importance of this agreement, noting that approximately 24,000 Jordanians employed in the textile sector will benefit from the provisions. These benefits include access to medical care through factory clinics, transportation allowances, and meal benefits offered by some employers. He also highlighted that non-Jordanian workers in the sector would benefit from these improvements as well.

The Ministry of Labour remains committed to fostering cooperation between unions and employers, balancing the needs of both to ensure workplace stability and improve economic productivity. Bakkar also stressed the ministry’s goal of creating job opportunities in rural and remote areas, helping reduce migration to urban centers.

Fathallah Omrani, President of the General Union of Workers in Textile Spinning, highlighted the positive impact of the wage increase on both worker welfare and productivity, reinforcing the union’s dedication to partnering with the Ministry of Labour and industry stakeholders to expand employment, boost factory output, and enhance export volumes, contributing to Jordan’s economic growth.
