Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched a webinar focused on agriculture and rural prosperity, where he reiterated the Government’s commitment to advancing the cotton sector. The webinar, organized by the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare in collaboration with the Ministry of Textiles, saw participation from key figures such as Union Minister of Textiles Giriraj Singh and Secretary Neelam Shami Rao.
Neelam Shami Rao highlighted several government initiatives aimed at strengthening the cotton value chain, including the development of Extra Long Staple (ELS) cotton seeds and the expansion of fibre testing facilities. The webinar also shed light on the Kasturi Cotton Bharat program, which seeks to promote sustainable growth within India’s cotton industry.
A key point of discussion revolved around the Mission for Cotton Productivity, with an emphasis on leveraging advanced technologies, improving market access, and fostering innovation in sustainable cotton production. The government’s dedication to supporting cotton farmers and cross-sector collaboration was a central theme, aimed at boosting cotton output and ensuring the sector’s long-term sustainability.
