The Assam Cabinet has approved the Textile and Apparel Policy of Assam, 2025, with the aim of boosting the state’s textile and apparel industry and attracting new investments. This policy is expected to create a more investor-friendly environment by providing easy access to raw materials and skilled manpower. The decision comes ahead of the Advantage Assam 2.0 summit in Guwahati, signaling Assam’s focus on fostering industrial growth in textiles and apparel.

Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma announced several key decisions following the Cabinet meeting, including the approval of Rs 55.45 crore for urban infrastructure development in Dibrugarh and Sivasagar districts, and Rs 157 crore for constructing a new flyover at Dibrugarh’s Amolapatty Junction on Old NH-37 to alleviate traffic congestion.

The state also made adjustments to the Biotechnology Policy (2022-2027) to encourage biotechnology research, industry, and entrepreneurship, aligning it with the BioE3 Policy for a more supportive ecosystem.

Further, the Cabinet approved the extension of the 6th Assam Finance Commission’s term until March 31, 2026, and introduced the Dynamic Assured Career Progression (DACP) Scheme, 2025, for doctors serving in medical colleges. The scheme ensures career growth for faculty members and includes provisions for loans, participation in national and international seminars, and the state’s financial support for attending conferences across Asia, America, and Europe.

The Textile and Apparel Policy aims to strengthen Assam’s position as a key player in India’s textile sector, drawing investors by enhancing industrial infrastructure and creating job opportunities, especially in textile hubs like Dibrugarh and Sivasagar. The state’s commitment to development in various sectors, including textiles, biotechnology, and healthcare, reflects its broader strategy for long-term economic growth and industrial advancement.
