India aims for USD 100 billion in cloth exports, carbon impartiality by 2030 Giriraj Singh

The Ministry of fabrics on Tuesday celebrated World Cotton Day 2025 with a strong drive for sustainability, technology relinquishment, and import growth in the cotton sector. Union Minister of fabrics Giriraj Singh reaffirmed the government’s commitment to achieving USD 100 billion in cloth exports as part of a broader USD 350 billion cloth sector target by 2030, alongside the thing of carbon impartiality.

Speaking at the event held in New Delhi and concertedly organised by the Ministry of fabrics and the Confederation of Indian Textile Industry( CITI), the Minister said cotton is n’t just a crop, but the soul of Indian husbandry — a reflection of growers’ adaptability and stopgap.

He stressed that India, which holds 40 of the world’s cotton civilization area, still lags in productivity at around 450 kg per hectare, compared to global situations of 2,000 kg per hectare. To address this gap, a “ Mission for Cotton Productivity ” is under active consideration, he said.

The Minister also stressed the eventuality of natural fibres like milkweed, ramie, and flax, prompting the cotton and cloth assiduity to borroweco-friendly practices in response to climate change. “ Effective use of water and electricity, soil conservation, and relinquishment of renewable energy are critical to guarding India’s generally rain- fed cotton regions, ” he said.

The event witnessed the signing of several Memoranda of Understanding( MoUs) under the Kasturi Cotton Bharat action with leading organisations similar as Arvind Ltd, Nitin Baits, RSR International, All India Cotton FPO Association, Beetle Regen, ICAR- CIRCOT, Hohenstein, and Noida Apparel Export Cluster. The brand aims to place Indian cotton as a symbol of chastity, quality, and sustainability in global requests.

Union Minister of State for fabrics and External Affairs Pabitra Margherita, in his address, underscored the significance of achieving leadership in sustainability, quality, and ethical product. He noted that enterprise like Kasturi Cotton align with the government’s 5F vision — ranch, fibre, plant, fashion, and foreign.

The programme also included perceptivity from CCI Chairman- cum- Managing Director Lalit Kumar Gupta and representatives from leading assiduity bodies like CITI and TEXPROCIL, who reiterated cotton’s pivotal part in driving profitable growth, employment, and livelihoods, particularly for women and pastoral communities.
