India and Afghanistan hold addresses to consolidate cooperation in cloth sector

A high position delegation of India and Afghanistan bandied to explore avenues for deeper profitable engagement in the cloth sector. Ministry of fabrics said that a high- position delegation from Afghanistan, led by Director General of Economic Relations, Shafiullah Azam, met Trade Advisor of the Textiles Ministry A. Bipin Menon in New Delhi. During the meeting, both sides bandied avenues for collective cooperation, including specialized support and training for Afghan cotton growers, facilitation of shipments and visas, and near engagement between assiduity bodies of both countries. The visiting delegation also articulated Afghanistan’s precedence to strengthen its cloth ecosystem, produce employment openings, and enhance training installations for growers entering the cotton and cloth value chain.

Textile trade relations between the two countries reflect strong complementarities, with India being the alternate- largest supplier of fabrics and vesture to Afghanistan, with exports reaching 68.7 million bones
last time. Afghanistan, which imported USD 742.8 million worth of fabrics and vesture from the world in 2024, expressed interest in using India’s moxie as the world’s alternate- largest cotton patron.
