Recently, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology issued a notice on the “Implementation Plan for Deepening the Green and Low-Carbon Standardization of Industry and Information Technology” (hereinafter referred to as the “Plan”).
The plan mentioned in the “Overall Requirements” that “by 2027, we will promote the formulation and revision of more than 100 standards in the green and low-carbon field. By 2030, the foundation of green and low-carbon standardization in industry and information technology will be more solid, the standard system will be more sound, and the support role of standardization in the green and low-carbon development of industry and information technology will be more significant.” At the same time, the “Key Research Directions of Green and Low-Carbon Standards (2025-2027)” was released, covering green factories, green parks, green supply chains, green design and other fields.
The plan mentions in the content of “Urgent Standards Action” that “strengthen the supply of carbon footprint accounting standards. Focus on industrial products with urgent market demand, outstanding contribution to emission reduction, and obvious supply chain driving effect. In accordance with the principle of trial implementation of group standards and gradual transformation into industry standards or national standards, actively promote the formulation of carbon footprint accounting rules and standards for key industrial products, steadily and orderly expand the scope of covered products, and directly formulate national standards or industry standards when conditions are ripe. Group standards with a good implementation foundation will be adopted as industry standards or national standards.”
In recent years, the China Cotton Textile Association (hereinafter referred to as “China Cotton Association”) has successively issued green and low-carbon standards for the cotton textile industry, such as “Green Factory Evaluation Requirements for Color Spinning Industry”, “Green Factory Evaluation Requirements for Cotton Textile Industry”, and “Water-Saving Enterprise Denim Industry”. It has continued to carry out green factory evaluation work with high quality. 12 textile enterprises coached and evaluated by China Cotton Association have successfully been shortlisted for the list of “National Green Factories” and “National Green Supply Chain Management Enterprises”.
Since 2024, the China Cotton Association has actively promoted the green and low-carbon standardization of the cotton textile industry and accelerated the formulation of product carbon footprint standards. On July 2, the China Cotton Association organized a review meeting for five group standards (drafts for review), including the “Quantification Method and Requirements for Carbon Footprint of Greenhouse Gas Products – Cotton Yarn“. Nearly 30 expert representatives from industry associations, colleges, enterprises and other relevant parties attended the meeting. After the meeting, the China Cotton Association will complete the approval and release of five product carbon footprint group standards as planned according to the requirements put forward in the plan, and strengthen the support role of standards for the green and low-carbon transformation of the cotton textile industry.
