Swedish Textile Service Industry Highlights Sustainability and Innovation at Annual Gathering

Stockholm, Sweden – Sustainability, innovation, leadership, and education took center stage at a major gathering of Sweden’s textile service industry, which brought together approximately 140 participants from government, business, academia, and the global textile sector.

The event provided a platform for industry leaders and policymakers to discuss the future of the textile service sector, with a strong focus on sustainability, circular economy initiatives, and workforce development.

One of the key speakers was Niklas Wykman, Sweden’s Minister for Financial Markets, who presented an overview of the country’s economic outlook. Wykman shared insights into ongoing government reforms and economic priorities, outlining how these measures are expected to support Sweden’s long-term financial growth and competitiveness.

Sustainability remained a central theme throughout the event. Rossella De Angelis of Klopman highlighted how companies are increasingly integrating sustainability strategies into their operations while improving communication around environmental and social responsibility efforts. According to De Angelis, these initiatives are playing an important role in transforming the textile industry and meeting rising stakeholder expectations.

The transition toward a circular textile economy was another major topic of discussion. Jessica Goguillon from Circulose spoke about advances in textile fiber recycling and efforts to establish more sustainable sources of raw materials. Her presentation emphasized the importance of developing closed-loop systems to reduce waste and resource consumption.

Representatives from RE&UP Recycling Technologies, Andreas Dorner and Baris Özden, examined emerging European policies and legislative developments designed to accelerate textile-to-textile recycling. They noted that regulatory changes are creating new opportunities for innovation and investment in sustainable recycling technologies.

Practical examples of circular textile projects were also showcased during the event. Industry experts Susanne Beskow and Caroline von Post presented several initiatives aimed at expanding textile recycling efforts. These included the development of circular uniforms for organizations such as Hr Björkmans Entrémattor and the National Museum, as well as a collaborative project involving the City of Stockholm and Elis to introduce reusable meal shawls as an alternative to disposable bibs.

Leadership and social responsibility were also key discussion points. Carola Lemne, Chairman of Samhall, shared lessons from her extensive leadership experience across both public and private sectors. She emphasized the importance of labor market integration and highlighted sustainable leadership practices as essential for long-term social and economic development.

Addressing the future workforce, Rickard Vinde of Solna Gymnasium called for stronger collaboration between educational institutions and businesses to better prepare students for industry demands. During the event, Vinde was announced as the recipient of the Swedish Textile Service Association’s 2026 Sustainability Award. He revealed that the award funds would be donated to Berättarministeriet, supporting educational and literacy initiatives.

The gathering also introduced a new partnership between the Swedish Textile Service Association and Fiera Milano, one of the world’s leading organizers of international trade exhibitions. Marta Triulzi presented details of the collaboration ahead of the return of the ExpoDetergo exhibition later this year.

Former Finance City Councillor Mats Hulth reflected on Stockholm’s efforts to strengthen its international reputation, highlighting major events and strategic initiatives that have increased the city’s visibility on the global stage.

A special recognition was presented to Peter Havéus, who was named an honorary member of the Swedish Textile Service Association in acknowledgment of his longstanding contributions to the industry and his commitment to advancing sustainability initiatives.

The event demonstrated the sector’s continued commitment to innovation, sustainability, and collaboration as it adapts to changing market demands and environmental expectations.
