The Karnataka Government has taken steps to speed up the development of the proposed Mega Textile Park in Kalaburagi, as part of the Centre’s PM MITRA scheme. This initiative was announced by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in the state budget.

Following a meeting to review progress, which was led by Chief Secretary Shalini Rajneesh, Karnataka Minister for Rural Development and Panchayat Raj, Priyank Kharge, stated that the Department of Handlooms and Textiles has been directed to promptly update the Detailed Project Report (DPR), including plans for external infrastructure for the Kalaburagi textile park, and submit it to the Project Approval Committee (PAC) of the Government of India.

The meeting was attended by Industries Minister MB Patil, along with senior officials from the Department of Industries and Commerce, the textiles department, Karnataka State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (KSIIDC), and the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB).

Priyank Kharge mentioned that the discussions during the meeting were centered on starting the first phase of development work by KIADB immediately.
The second phase of the project will be launched later, depending on the amount of investment attracted and the number of jobs created in the first phase.

Under the Central Government’s Development Capital Support (DCS) scheme, the project is eligible for financial assistance equivalent to 30% of the total project cost, up to a maximum of Rs. 500 crore (US $52.44 million).
The minister said that the funds will be used for developing internal infrastructure such as roads, water supply, power facilities, a common effluent treatment plant (CETP), and hostel facilities.

The state government will also contribute a minimum of Rs. 25 crore (US $2.62 million) through the state implementing agency to ensure the release of the first instalment of funds for the project.
Priyank Kharge added that officials have been instructed to start the process of distributing funds for the physical development of the park.

The proposed mega textile park is expected to enhance the industrial environment in Kalaburagi district, support regional economic growth, and create significant employment opportunities.
